Mayor Katie B. Wilson released the following statement on the killing of Alex Pretti:
“I’m horrified by the news this morning out of Minneapolis. I mourn for the victim, their family and friends, and for all of the families being torn apart every day by immigration agents.
I’m also inspired by the ferocity of the community response there. Tens of thousands of people protested in the bitter cold. Neighbors have formed groups to monitor the activity of federal agents and share that information to help keep community members safe. I know we can practice that same level of solidarity in Seattle too.
I encourage everyone to connect with their neighbors and build networks to monitor ICE activity and protect their communities. I also encourage everyone to look to official city sources and organizations like the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network for the latest verified information.
Together we mourn, we organize, and we fight back. I’ll have more to say in coming days and weeks about specific actions the city will be taking.”
